Here at A Fonte, we know that poverty is not simply a problem of external circumstance, but rather it is something sewn into the very fabric of our being. Through our experiences, relationships, and environment, the world constantly tells us what to believe about who we are and what we are worth. Our mission here at A Fonte is to challenge these false beliefs with the ultimate truth, the person of Jesus Christ. The truth that is: "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son," the Truth that has said: "...the Kingdom of heaven belongs to children such as these," and the Truth that has made us: "...more than conquerors through him who loved us". Through Christ's love in us as a community, these children can experience these truths not only in theory, but as a life-changing reality.

Through our care, instruction, and support, together we can help each child begin to break through the physical, mental, and spiritual bonds of poverty. It is who we believe we are that ultimately determines who we will become. And by instilling in them a belief in their intrinsic value as God's beloved, we are challenging the old trajectory of their lives with the transformative hope of faith. We are liberating them from a past that threatens to hold them captive, strengthening them to resist things that may limit their God-given potential, and encouraging them to pursue goals that will challenge, develop, and expand them.

As excited as we are to witness your generosity transform the lives of the 72 children here at A Fonte, what truly gives us hope is the impact we make as a result. Like the ever-increasing ripples created by throwing a stone into a pond, your small act of love sends shockwaves throughout creation, as the child's life impacts those around them. Think of all the lives you can touch by helping just one child pursue his dream of someday becoming a teacher and starting a family. For few things are as precious as a loving parent, and just about all of us have had at least one teacher whose profound impact changed the whole trajectory of our lives.

Together as ambassadors of Christ we collectively testify and witness to the resurrection. For there is something at work among us, that is infinitely more than the sum of all of its parts. Corporately, we are the living body of Christ; a holy temple in which the Holy Spirit dwells. This Spirit is at work among us, and we are but merely witnesses to it. It is Immanuel, that is: “God with us”, it is Jesus meaning: “God saves or rescues”, and it is the Christ meaning: “messiah and king.” This is the good news that we preach: that we have not been abandoned and left to our own devices, but on the contrary, that God Himself has entered into our story as savior and king; to rescue and set right a broken world.
And to this end, that is the Kingdom of God, is where we have turned our eyes and set our focus. Those who look closely even now can see it. Every seemingly small everyday victory in the lives of one of these children is a promise and among the first fruits of the coming harvest in all of its fullness. Jesus Himself explained the Kingdom as being: “...like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”
This is the nature of our work and the future to which we are being called. By altering just one child’s life, we are able to touch countless others through them. With this understanding, you can begin to see just what this parable of Jesus is talking about. As we turn the tide on generational poverty, that child’s children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren are rescued from the same awful fate. What started as a small and simple act of love, has grown so large that even the birds of the air are able to come, seek refuge, and nest in its branches. The real ministry or project has nothing to do with the building we work in, or even the staff themselves, but rather it is the presence of God at work in the lives of these children.
